sky painting

the screeching west wind
   clashes with the east
I battle inexorable currents
    reaching for the sky

pleading to the sea

   the sun

the stars…

   the moon won’t hear me

thru the pines

    that whisper hope
 peer slices of tomorrow,
     a teasing peace.

drink in tranquility
   exhale today,

feel its breath

   bitter yet tasteless

has the forest grown so dense?

   or has the light

at the end of our galaxy
   for me burned quietly dim

a squirrel hangs by its tail from the bird feeder

oblivious to the world around us

while I painted the sky with your name…

   Why couldn’t you see?
